MVB: Wesmen season ends in decisive third match

EDMONTON — The Winnipeg Wesmen weren't able to summon the same magic on back-to-back nights.

The Wesmen men's volleyball team had its playoff run ended Saturday in a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 29-27) defeat at the hands of the Alberta Golden Bears in the decisive third match of the conference quarter-final series.

A night after pulling off a reverse sweep to keep their season alive, the Wesmen had two set points in the third to try and extend the match but the Golden Bears had answers, notching five kills for their final five points.

The Wesmen hit .202 for the night and couldn't slow the Alberta attack. The Bears hit .400 over three sets, including .458 in the second.

Luke Lodewyks led the Wesmen with 13 kills and Jaxon Rose added 11. Alex Krykewich had 31 assists and a team-high seven digs in his final match.

Paxton Koop, also playing his final match, was in on five total blocks.

Dylan Martens' 15 kills led three Golden Bears in double figures. Jacob Sargent had 14 and Matt Shand chipped in with 10.
