SASKATOON — The Winnipeg Wesmen will go into the Canada West playoffs as the No. 1 seed.
The Wesmen men's basketball team clinched top spot in the Prairie Division Friday night with a 96-83 victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies.
The Canada West awards the No. 1 overall seed to the top team in the Prairie Division, meaning the Wesmen (15-4) will have home-court advantage throughout the conference post-season.
A week after scoring a career-high 31 at Manitoba,
Kato Jaro was sharp again scoring a game-high 30 points along with six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Jaro scored 16 in the third quarter as the Wesmen wiped out a nine-point deficit with a 10-0 run that was capped by a Jaro three that made it 50-49.
The Huskies, nevertheless, took a four-point lead into the fourth quarter and upped it to six in the final period before the Wesmen really turned it on.
Trailing 74-69, the Wesmen went on a 17-3 run to take a nine-point lead.
Donald Stewart, who had nine points in the fourth quarter, had six in the pivotal Wesmen run.
Alberto Gordo scored 16 points, Stewart had 15,
Ryan Luke chipped in 11 and seven rebounds, and
Malachi Alexander dropped 10 with six rebounds.
The Huskies (5-14) were led by Emmanuel Bonsu's 25 points while Easton Thimm scored 18 with 10 rebounds. Mohamed Mahadhi added 11 points and Mohamed Jabateh added 10 points.
