EDMONTON — One night after being dealt their first loss in 2026, the Winnipeg Wesmen responded with one of their best efforts of the season.
Luke Lodewyks had 12 kills and the Wesmen men's volleyball team hit .409 on the night to put down the Alberta Golden Bears 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-21) in a Canada West conference match Saturday night at the Saville Centre.
The Wesmen (9-7) hit a season-high .409 and responded in a big way to Alberta's sweep on Friday. Lodewyks added a game-high nine digs as Winnipeg stayed in sixth place in the Canada West, one match behind the Manitoba Bisons, who the Wesmen just happen to meet this week as part of the Duckworth Challenge.
The Wesmen were scorching in the first set, knocking down 13 kills on 21 swings with just one error for a .571 efficiency. They hit better than .300 in all three sets while holding Alberta to .080 in the second set and .173 for the match.
Aidan Hruska had eight kills on 12 swings and added three block assists, while
Jaxon Rose chipped in with six kills and two aces.
Easton Dick had five kills on nine swings with no errors and recorded a career-high eight total blocks.
The Golden Bears (9-5) got a match-high 15 kills from Matt Shand, but had three players hit in negative percentage.
