SASKATOON — A squandered second-set lead doomed the Winnipeg Wesmen in a road loss Friday night.
The Wesmen women's volleyball team lost a six-point lead in the second and ultimately dropped a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-20) Canada West conference decision to the Saskatchewan Huskies.
After dropping Set 1, the Wesmen rallied in the second with a six-point run that turned an 11-9 deficit into a 15-11 advantage. Following a Saskatchewan timeout, the Wesmen then won three of the next four points to go up 18-12 and seemingly grabbed control of the set.
The Huskies, however, proceeded to score 12 straight points on nine kills to completely flip the set.
Saskatchewan jumped out early in the third and took a 6-1 lead before the Wesmen rallied to eventually tie it at eight. But four straight Huskies points after that gave the hosts a lead they wouldn't relinquish, eventually stretching it to 20-13 later in the set.
